The construction industry should opt for emerging fast track technologies which is the order of the day in major building and infrastructure projects as it helps eliminates delay in time of construction and caters to customer needs, S. Saraswati, president of the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) has said.
Speaking at a national seminar on emerging fast track techniques in building and infrastructure projects, Mr. Saraswati said that fast track technologies was the only option for construction of elevated transport systems and flyovers in major cities with minimum disturbance. The foundation is laid while the super structure is completed at a different location and brought to the foundation. There is a large scale demand for housing and the industry has to build more number of houses within a certain period. Though a number of technologies are available, fast-track construction ensured early completion of projects without dilution of quality.
Mr. Saraswati said that construction workers were becoming scarce and the industry was able to manage the situation with mechanised construction. The ICI has around 30 centres across the country and has been organising seminars and events on topics relevant to the construction industry.
The seminar also focused on themes such as rapid wall construction, multi-storeyed building using precast construction technology, innovative techniques for fast track construction of elevated roads and metro structures, affordable housing using RFRG panels and pre-engineered building design and concepts.
