BJP promises prohibition, corruption-free government

Blaming the rulers of the past for the poor infrastructure and the lack of industrial development in Union Territory (UT), Bhartiya Janata Party, Puducherry unit appealed to voters to give an opportunity to improve UT.

Releasing a manifesto exclusively for the UT, senior BJP leader L. Ganesan said, “The past governments were corrupt. We will strive for corrupt-free administration if the people vote us.”

Puducherry unit president Mr. Saminathan said in spite of generous funds from the Central Government, the successive governments that were in the power for past fifty years had not spent in a planned and constructive way. They had used the funds as per their own whims and fancy.

Complete prohibition

Explaining the salient features of manifesto, the BJP leader promised to bring complete prohibition. He also said necessary steps would be taken to ensure 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies.

Dwelling on various promises for creating employment and growth of industries, he said that all sick industrial units would be restructured and restarted. Free education for students of scheduled caste from class 1 to professional courses would be provided. The manifesto also said a branch of Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research would be begun in the name of ‘Deendayal Upadhaya’ in Karaikal and the ‘Thirukkural’ would be declared as a national book.

Laying of railway line

Railway line would be laid from Chennai to Cuddalore via East Coast Road and Puducherry and Tindivanam to facilitate the public. Mr. Saminathan hoped that his party would get two or three MLAs in polls and added that his party would strive for fulfilling the promises made in the election manifesto.
