Nearly 300 cadre belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday courted arrest while staging a protest against the Congress government for its failure to provide jobs.
Demonstrations were staged in front of government offices at Karaikal, Ariyankuppam and Villianur.
BJP State president V. Swaminathan along with workers courted arrest in front of the Labour Department at Thattanchavady. He told The Hindu that the Congress government had failed to tap the Union government schemes for providing jobs. Around 2.5 lakh unemployed youth had registered with the employment exchange in the Union Territory. The ruling Congress had failed to create jobs by setting up new industries, he said.
Mr. Swaminathan said the government failure to create jobs had put the educated youth in despair. The Congress came to power with the promise of creating jobs and maintaining law and order.
The government had failed on both the fronts, he added.
