Abject poverty did not deter B. Karthiga, a student of Thiruvalluvar Government Girls Higher Secondary School from emerging as the State second topper among Government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
Daughter of C. Balasubramaniam, a lorry driver and B. Alli of Thamarai Nagar near Ariyur, Karthiga secured 1167 out of 1200 in the plus two examinations with 187 in Tamil, 190 in English, 196 in Economics, 198 in Commerce, 197 in Accountancy and 199 in Business Maths.
Karthiga’s father is bedridden for the last two years while her mother Alli, a tailor is the sole bread winner. Her elder sister Valli Devanai is doing her B.E. at the Pondicherry Engineering College.
Speaking to The Hindu , Karthiga said she wants to pursue B.Com at the Bharathidasan Government College for Women and take up Chartered Accountancy as her career.
S Fathima Parvin of Annai Theresa Government Girls Higher Secondary School has bagged the first rank among Government schools in Puducherry and Karaikal with a score of 1180. Sivashankari, a student of Annai Theresa secured the third rank with a score of 1161.
