Police personnel on Wednesday gave a warm farewell to Inspector General of Police Praveer Ranjan who has been transferred to Delhi. Mr. Ranjan was posted as IGP in July 2014.
A 1993-batch officer in AGMUT cadre (Arunachal, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories), Mr. Ranjan served in various capacities in the Delhi police and as Deputy Inspector General in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for seven years.
Mr. Ranjan had also received the President’s Police Medal for meritorious services and the Kathin Seva Padak for serving in North East.
After accepting the guard of honour by policemen of Puducherry in the Armed Police Grounds at Gorimedu on Wednesday, Mr. Ranjan said that Puducherry had seen a steady decline in serious crimes over a period of five years and it had come down to a very reasonable limit
He lauded the police force in Puducherry and called it “a very healthy, disciplined and forward looking force”. There was no political interference from both the previous and present political establishment, he said, adding that there was always a spirit of consultation and cooperation with the establishment.
In Puducherry, Mr. Ranjan joined as Inspector General of Police in 2014 and took charge of the smooth conduct of Parliamentary elections.
Several new initiatives, including the new website of Puducherry Police, implementation of CCTNS for networking of all police stations , web based applications for security of women and strengthening of traffic police, were undertaken during his tenure.
e-recruitment system
One of the highlights of his tenure was the introduction of e-recruitment system. Around 800 recruitments in Puducherry Police were conducted without any complaint.
