Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) India Ltd, on Monday commissioned a relocated Belt Reconditioning Plant at Mine-II.
Sarat Kumar Acharya, Chairman and Managing Director, NLC, inaugurated the plant built at a cost ₹13.45 crore.
The plant was shifted from Mine-I to Mine-II to free up space for the expansion of Mine-I.
According to a press note, the NLC’s maintenance requirements were carried out by NLC Central Service Units, which caters to the needs of Neyveli Mines and Thermal Power Stations by maintaining and repairing of light/heavy motor vehicles and electrical equipment, and the belt reconditioning plant which fixes and reconditions the worn out belts used in the mines.
According to NLC, exploration of lignite by way of expanding the mine-I area had necessitated the shifting of the yards/sheds. While 35 yards had to be shifted, the Belt Reconditioning Plant was the last yard to be shifted.
These relocated facilities are being built at the erstwhile Briqueting and Carbonisation (B&C) Plant area and the areas of Neyveli Mine-I and Mine-II where brown coal did not exist. The Belt Reconditioning Plant, which was taking care of repairs in steel cord/fabric belts, was shifted to Mine-II.
The plant, built on 25,000 sq. m of land, can recondition 14,380 m of belts/annum. An estimated 32,000 cement bags and 578 tonnes structural steel were used in the construction of the plant.
Mr. Acharya said that before going in for any purchase or reconditioning, a cost benefit analysis should be done. The Belt Reconditioning Plant will lend a supporting hand in reduced purchase of new belt, which saved money.
