A special representative of the Crown Prince of Dubai Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum on Saturday met Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy to discuss the proposed plan to set up a Halal Food Park here.
The special representative along with a few non-resident Indians from Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Canada met Mr. Narayanasamy and Industries Minister M.O.H.F Shahjahan and sought around 100 acres of land in the Union Territory to set up a Halal Food park, including a Halal Certification centre.
According to an official, the team wanted to produce halal food to cater the domestic as well as offshore markets. Halal is a term from Quran that means ‘permitted or lawful.’
Halal foods are those that are free from any component that Muslims are prohibited from consuming according to Islamic law.
The team had expressed desire to start the operations even from a limited space. They have asked the government to set up the necessary infrastructure, including power and water connection, so as to start operations.
On its part, the government had asked the delegation to come out with a detailed project report so that a Memorandum of Understanding can be signed.
The ruling Congress, since unveiling the new industrial policy had been wooing industries to set up base here by showcasing the availability of land and power at the government’s disposal. One of the key highlights of the policy is the single window system for clearing proposals.
As a follow-up to the new industrial policy, the government is planning to hold an industrial summit to bring together companies under one roof.
