In a remarkable exhibition of the ability of art to transcend geographic, social, ethnic or religious barriers, over a hundred artists from 34 countries got together to promote harmony and celebrate the human spirit.
The show featuring artists from countries such as Russia, Germany, Canada, Portugal, Egypt, Syria and Iran besides India was hosted by Narrative Movements, an organisation conceived and founded by a collective of artists and supported through formative years by the iconic K.G. Subramanyan.
The decade-old collective works towards a vision to build a community of artists around the globe for promoting global harmony through arts.
Week-long event
Narrative Movements has grown to a comprise group of over 150 international artists from sixty countries. The week-long cultural event was launched by Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi.
Among the guests of honour were Valerie Barot, Director “ APDV” Gallery Paris , France; Cate Wallis, founder, director of “Tai Chi Do” Switzerland and Aurelio, ethno-musiciologist and musician from Austria in Auroville.
The highlights included ‘Mysteries Within’, an international art exhibition; screening of an art documentary, ‘Post contemporary wave’ directed and curated by Bibekananda Santra, director and among the founding forces of Narrative Movements, and produced by Utpal Pal; a Hindustani concert by Lakshmi Santra accompanied by Biplab Barman on tabla and a Bharatanatyam performance by Udhaya Ramakrishnan and group.
According to N A Sivakoumar, Doordarshan Puducherry, the event, which drew notable personalities from a wide range of arts, was well received by the people of the city, which has a long tradition of cross-cultural exposure.
As a special gesture, the show was dedicated to memory of lives lost in the 2004 tsunami and the people of Puducherry who survived the great loss.
