The D Nagar police arrested three Rwanda nationals and seized 1.25 kg of ganja from them at Sanjeevi Nagar on Tuesday.
The police arrested Peace John, 32, A. Zere Gilbert, 30, and J. Mozzoia Allen, 25.
Acting on a tip-off that a group was peddling ganja, a police team led by Special Task Force (STF) Inspector Karthikeyan and D Nagar Inspector Kannan arrested the trio and seized the ganja, ₹5,400 in cash and three mobile phones.
They said that Peace John was studying B.Tech at a private college in Salem, while Zere Gilbert was his junior in the college. The duo became friends and picked up the habit of smoking ganja. John rented a house in Alankuppam near Puducherry and indulged in the drug trade following demand for the contraband. Preliminary investigations revealed that John procured ganja from Salem and sold it to foreign tourists, college students and locals in Alankuppam with the help of Gilbert and Allen who arrived here during the weekends.
The trio were arrested and booked under Section 20 (b) (A) of the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Further investigations are on.
