The Villianur police on Thursday arrested three persons for bribing voters in Gopalan Kadai.
The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by M. Sendhil Kumar, deputy tashildar, who headed a flying squad.
According to the complainant, the team caught the three persons red-handed while they were distributing money to voters. The police registered a case against them under provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Representation of People’s Act. Initial investigation revealed that the three persons owed allegiance to the Congress. Two of them were also government servants.
Later in the evening, Congress and DMK cadre staged a protest in front of the police station seeking the release of those arrested.
The police used mild force to disperse them.
