The Bhuvanagiri police have booked a case against a 17-year-old boy and his father after the two-wheeler that the former was riding hit a 65-year-old man, killing him on the spot at Thambikunallanpattinam near Bhuvanagiri.

According to the police, the boy was riding the motorcycle with two sitting pillion when he lost control of the bike and hit T. Jayaraman, a farmer who was walking on the side of the road. Jayaraman was killed on the spot.

Based on a complaint from Jayaraman’s son Palanivel, the Bhuvanagiri police registered a case under Section 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 304 (a) (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against the boy.

The police said since the boy’s father Ramalingam had given the vehicle to his son for riding without a valid driving licence, a case was registered against Ramalingam under Section 5 r/w 180 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

On instructions from Superintendent of Police P. Saravanan, the Cuddalore district police have also booked 571 motorists for riding triples.

Mr. Saravanan has warned of strict action against parents of minors who allow them to ride two-wheelers without a valid driving licence.
