Residents of Vijaya Nagaram in Medavakkam have requested the officials of State Highways Department to construct a pavement abutting the lanes of Velachery Main Road, towards Medavakkam.

The section of Velachery Main Road, near Nanmangalam Reserve Forest, is battered and littered with garbage.

“A few passers-by use the stretch as a public convenience to relieve themselves. Pedestrians are forced to walk through the mounds of garbage on the carriageway. At a few spots, the walkers’ pathway is encroached upon by commercial establishments, haphazard parking of vehicles and by vendors,” says M. Raman, a resident of Vijaya Nagaram.

An official from State Highways says, “At present, road-widening work is in progress on the eastern side of the road. Soon, steps will be taken to widen the western side of the road. Then, walkers’ pathways would be laid on both sides of the road.”
