Worried, man kills self over cut in salary

CBD Belapur police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the owner of a firm after an employee committed suicide on Saturday following fears of a salary cut.

Deepak Revankar (35), an engineer working as a manager for a shipping company, Microdata Marine Group, allegedly committed suicide by electrocuting himself at his office in CBD railway station complex on Saturday at around 3.15 a.m.

The police have registered a case against K.C. Patel, director of Microdata Marine group. The police said that it was decided to reduce Revankar’s salary at a meeting in the office on Friday.

The police said that Revankar, a resident of Panvel, forwarded an email to Mr. Patel and brother before taking his life.

A police official from CBD Belapur station said, “A diploma holder, Revankar served the firm for 11 years. While working, he even completed his BE. He looked after designing of ships. However, the firm stopped receiving sufficient design work. The company decided to reduce Revankar’s salary of ₹60,000 as his workload had decreased.”

Emails suicide note

Revankar in his mail mentioned that he was taking the extreme step as the company was planning to reduce his salary. He blamed Mr. Patel for his death.

Assistant Police Inspector Raju Pathan, th einvestigating officer in the case, said, “Revankar had the office keys. On Friday after reaching home at 6.30 p.m., he back to office at 7 p.m. He committed suicide on Saturday morning..”

Mr. Pathan said, “We are yet to arrest Mr. Patel. We will take him into custody soon.”
