Mumbai: A water supply pipeline burst in Vakola on Sunday morning, resulting in loss of thousands of litres of water. Repair works were carried out throughout the day and water supply is expected to be restored by Monday morning.

The incident happened on Nehru Road around 5.16 a.m. “By that time, the morning’s supply to the area was almost complete. The water flooded the road. Supply was stopped and repairs were undertaken immediately. Hydraulic engineer’s department officials have told me that repairs will be complete by Sunday night and supply will resume on Monday morning,” Brian Miranda, former Congress corporator from the area, said.

He said, “I hope they stick to their word. As Vakola-Kalina is at the fag end of supply, we have been facing issues throughout the year. And since its a Monday morning, they better give supply,” Mr. Miranda said.

Hydraulic engineer Ashok Tawadiya said the damaged portion of the pipeline was replaced.
