The Rabale police have booked an unidentified base jumper for allegedly entering a 24-storey under-construction building at Sector 15 in Ghansoli and jumping off its terrace on Saturday.

Sudhakar Pathare, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, said, “The unidentified woman has been booked for trespassing and entering the building. We are also checking information from the passport department to check if foreigners were present in the area on Saturday. Witnesses have said that the woman looked like a foreigner but we suspect that she could have hailed from the northeast.”

The officer said that there are four training centres offering three-day courses in adventure sports near Navi Mumbai. Three of them are based in Kamshet in Pune rural and one is located in Virar. “We found no leads from the training centres as they only train people in paragliding. They do not teach base jumping,” he said.

On Saturday, residents of Sector 15, Palm Beach Road, alerted the police of a “suspicious parachute” seen floating in the area between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Initially, the residents thought it was a security breach, but the police later verified and found out they were just base jumpers.

CCTV footage showed the woman and a man walking away from the spot and heading to Ghansoli railway station and from there to Koparkhairane in an auto. The woman has been booked under Section 448 (house-trespass) of the IPC.
