A 10-year-old boy, who was kidnapped earlier this week, was safely rescued by the Thane police, who arrested two people in connection with the case on Thursday.

According to the police, Krish Jaiswar went missing from near his Thane residence on Sunday, and as per the procedure for missing minors, a case of kidnapping was registered against unknown persons by the Shrinagar police. On Thursday, Krish’s father, Yogendrakumar Jaiswar, met Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Avinash Ambure and told him he had received a ransom call.

Police team formed

“The caller told Mr. Jaiswar to give ₹3 lakh to Kalpanath Chauhan, a television repairman working in his area, and send him to the Dadar railway station, after which he would get his son back. A special team headed by police inspector S.P. Pandharkar, Shrinagar police station, and senior police inspector A.S. Pathan, Wagle Estate police station, which included policemen as well as civilian volunteers, was formed to work on the case,” Mr. Ambure said.

Acting on the police’s instructions, Mr. Jaiswar gave the ransom amount to Mr. Chauhan and asked him to go to Dadar and wait for further instructions. Mr. Chauhan left for Thane railway station in an autorickshaw, and unknown to him the police team, in plain clothes, followed him in autorickshaws, jeeps and on two-wheelers.

“Our suspicions were first raised when Mr. Chauhan, instead of going to the railway station, diverted the autorickshaw towards Bhiwandi. We asked Mr. Jaiswar to call Mr. Chauhan and when he did so, Mr. Chauhan said he was on his way to Dadar. Our team stayed on his trail as he made his way to Narpoli in Bhiwandi and entered a house in Ekta Nagar,” Mr. Ambure said.

Boy found in house

The police team barged into the house and found Krish inside, safe and sound. Mr. Chauhan and his brother, Sikandar, who was also in the house, were taken to the police station and placed under arrest after preliminary inquiries.

The police said the entire plot was hatched by Mr. Chauhan, and Krish has not been harmed in any way. The police have booked both men for kidnapping under the Indian Penal Code and are conducting inquiries to find out if anyone else was involved.
