A retired teacher from Solapur fainted while trying to meet Education Minister Ashish Shelar at Mantralaya on Friday afternoon.
According to the Marine Drive police, the teacher, who has been fighting with his former employers for several years after he was denied retirement dues, started trying to meet Mr. Shelar to voice his grievances.
“He had told us that he would protest at Mantralaya, but we assured him that we would try to arrange a meeting with Mr. Shelar. However, the meeting could not be arranged for certain reasons, and he came to Mantralaya on Friday afternoon to protest,” an officer with the Marine Drive police station said.
Even as the police were trying to convince him to change his mind, the teacher, who had turned up with his wife, son and daughter, fainted. He was taken to GT Hospital. “We subsequently counselled him and assured him that we would arrange a meeting with Mr. Shelar on Monday. He has agreed to wait till then. We are in touch with our superiors so that a meeting can be set up at the earliest,” the officer said.
He said no case has been registered in connection with the incident.
