The Nerul police on Sunday arrested three people for allegedly killing a person and seriously injuring another.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Avinash Jadhav, Omkar Rathod and Amit alias Hanif Shaikh, all residents of Shivaji Nagar in Turbhe. Mr. Jadhav and Mr. Rathod have a previous record of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by means of dangerous weapons.

The accused called Rajesh Ingale (25) and his friend Vaibhav Sadavar (24) near a footpath at Shivaji Chowk in Sector 18, Nerul, around 10 p.m. on Friday.

“The accused told the duo to meet them to resolve their dispute. The accused were armed with knives. After the duo reached the spot, the accused attacked them,” police inspector Madhukar Bhatte from Nerul police station said. Passersby admitted the duo to D.Y. Patil Hospital, and a case of attempt to murder was registered against the accused.

On Saturday, Ingale succumbed to his injuries. Subsequently, the section of ‘murder’ was invoked in the case, the police said. While Ingale was attacked on his chest, Mr. Sadavar was attacked on his left hand and stomach. The accused were arrested from Rasyani, where they were in hiding.
