The Vanrai police have arrested three watchmen for burgling the house they guarded in Goregaon East. The accused were held as they were fleeing to Nepal by a team of the Mumbai police and the Special Task Force of Agra police.
The accused have been identified as Sanjay Vishwakarma (33), Naveen Vishwakarma (30) and Shakti Vishwakarma (32). The Vanrai police said the businessman who owned the house in Jayprakash Nagar was away in his native place to celebrate Ganeshotsav. When he returned home on Monday, he found that his house had been broken into and cash and valuables worth ₹24.68 lakh were missing.
An officer with Vanrai police said, “We found that three watchmen employed to guard buildings in the area had been missing since the burglary. We also learnt that they had booked tickets to travel from Lucknow to Nepal.”
The Vanrai police found that the bus would be passing through Agra and so contacted the Agra police. They sent a team of policemen from the Special Task Force to intercept the bus. The trio were identified on the basis of the details they had given the travel agency.
They were taken into custody on Thursday brought to Mumbai on Friday. The police have recovered valuables worth ₹18.73 lakh from them. They will be produced in court on Saturday.
