Tailor held for raping woman

Mumbai: A 32-year-old tailor has been arrested by the Nirmal Nagar police for allegedly raping a woman in the ONGC locality of Bandra (East) late on Friday night.

According to the police, the accused, Akram alias Munna Aslam Qureshi, runs a tailoring shop in the locality. On Friday night, he entered the victim’s house when she was alone and raped her. He tried to kill her and then fled the house, leaving her for dead. On hearing the victim’s scream for help, her neighbours called the police.

A special police team caught Qureshi from Kurla Terminus on Saturday when he was about to board the Kamyani Express for Uttar Pradesh. He has been booked under Section 376 (Rape) of the IPC. He was produced in the Bandra court, which sent him to police custody.
