The H1N1 virus has killed 23 people in the State this year. The highest number of deaths (9) was reported from Nagpur. As many as 348 people have been infected with the virus in the State.

State epidemiologist Dr. Pradip Awate said a spurt in swine flu cases is generally seen during the winter and in the post-monsoon period. “The cold wave this year led to more activity of the virus,” Dr. Awate said.

He said Vidarbha is the most affected region, with 12 deaths reported from the 11 districts. While Nagpur reported nine deaths, two deaths were reported from Amravati and one from Bhandara. Mumbai has not recorded any deaths so far, but seven cases have been reported from the city.
