A fire in Merchant Industrial Estate in Vasai destroyed six small units on Thursday night. Nallasopara fire station officials said the blaze was reported around 11.30 p.m.. “As the fire broke out at night, there were no injuries or deaths,” Jayesh Chiplunkar, a fire officer, said.
Mr. Chiplunkar said six fire engines along with a five-member team were sent to the spot. “The blaze was brought under control by 2.30 a.m. and the operation ended at 6 a.m..”
Fire brigade officials are still trying to find out the cause of the fire. “One of the gutted units manufactured ink. Raw material required for ink is often flammable, and there is a possibility that a spark somewhere in that unit led to a rapid spread of fire across six units,” Mr. Chiplunkar said.
The Waliv police have registered an incident report and are awaiting the fire brigade’s report.
