The newly elected MPs of the Shiv Sena on Wednesday protested outside the naval dockyard in Mumbai against the auction of > INS Vikrant , country’s first aircraft carrier. The ship has now been moved to Darukhana ship-breaking yard and will remain there till the next order from the Supreme Court.
“We can raise the money to >restore the warship and to turn it into a war memorial. We demand that the ship not be scrapped as it has played vital role in securing India’s seas,” said Rahul Shewale, the Sena MP from Mumbai, after the protest.
The Sena, which is the ruling party in the Mumbai municipality, had declared that it would allocate Rs. 100 crore for the warship from the civic body’s budget. “We can raise Rs. 300 crore more from different sources, if needed, to save the ship,” claimed Mr. Shewale.
