Navi Mumbai: The Nerul police on Tuesday arrested the two roommates of Wipro employee Bhushan Waghmare (36), who hanged himself on Friday, for abetting his suicide.

Waghmare’s brother has alleged foul play in the case.

Abhinesh Kumar (30), who hails from Jhansi, works in the Railways and is posted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. He had been staying at the apartment for two months. The second roommate, Abhishek Tiwari (27), is a software engineer with a private bank in Turbhe MIDC, and had moved to the flat 15 days ago.

Assistant Police Inspector Ganpat Parchake said, “We are yet to verify if they work where they say they do. One of them says they were not at home when the incident happened, while the other says the opposite. They are constantly changing their statements, and claiming they had no dispute with each other. The neighbours say they heard the three roommates fighting many times. We suspect the two wanted Waghmare out of the flat so they could bring their friends to stay.”

Senior Police Inspector Ashok Rajput said, “We are trying to find out if the accused were at home when Waghmare committed suicide. We are awaiting post mortem reports to confirm if the death was due to hanging or not,” he said.

Meanwhile, Waghmare’s brother, Rakesh, maintained that his brother could not have committed suicide. “Issues between roommates don’t lead an adult to commit suicide,” he said. Kumar and Tiwari have been remanded in police custody till June 23.
