The Panvel Taluka police on Saturday arrested a 38-year-old real estate agent who allegedly raped and impregnated his friend's 17-year-old daughter.
The incident came to light when the victim visited a doctor and it was found that she was five months pregnant.
She revealed that Pradeep Gaikwad (38) had raped her while visiting her house when she was alone, a few months ago. He had also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it, a police official said.
Mr. Gaikwad became friends with the victim’s father two years ago during a business deal and would regularly visit their house, the official said.
The accused has been booked for rape and under Sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act and has been remanded in police custody till July 23.
