Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria will continue with the investigations in the Sheena Bora murder case.
Confirming the late evening development, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K.P. Bakshi told The Hindu, “Yes, he [Rakesh Maria] will continue on the Sheena Bora murder case. He will work on it till the chargesheet is filed in the court. He will work on this case despite his new position." The decision appeared to have been taken at an evening meeting of top police officials.
Mr. Bakshi had issued the order transferring Mr. Maria as Director General, Home Guards and Commandant, Civil Defence — a non-operational posting considered widely as a “punishment posting” in the police force.
Ahmed Javed, the new Mumbai police commissioner, was not available for comment on this latest development of Mr. Maria continuing with the investigations.
Soon after taking over the new posting, Mr. Javed had said the police reshuffle would have no impact on the continuing investigations in Sheena Bora case as all the investigating officers in the probe, supervised by mr. Maria, have not been transferred.
