Car and bike-pooling service provider Quick Ride plans to expand to south and central Mumbai, offering services at one-fifth the cost of app-based cab aggregators.
“Today, Mumbai is one of the fastest-growing markets and has witnessed a growth of 100% month on month since we started here. Quick Ride has completed over two lakh carpools so far,” said K.N.M. Rao, co-founder and CEO, Quick Ride. The company has built a network of one lakh users in Mumbai over the past six months.
With over 3,000 active users in areas like Airoli, Thane, Powai, Bandra Kurla Complex, Andheri and Goregaon catering to information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services sector employees, Quick Ride aims at building a network of five lakh users by 2020 by expanding to south Mumbai, Mr. Rao said.
“Our initiative alone is preventing around 10 tonnes of carbon emission every day in Mumbai. We want to take it to 250 tonnes of carbon emission reduction every day by scaling up the carpooling to 50,000 car trips every day,” he said. This will reduce one lakh car trips a day in Mumbai.
Out of the total users in Mumbai, 40% of Quick Riders are women.
“We are committed to reduce transit time, traffic congestion and carbon footprint in the city. Carpooling is an affordable and safe alternative as well,” he said.
Mumbai, he said, is considered to be one of the country’s most congested cities and every day, nearly 1,000 new vehicles are added to the roads.
“We aim to decongest the city’s roads and reduce vehicular pollution through our initiative. The foundational idea behind Quick Ride is that no new vehicle is added to the road but there is maximisation of available seat space,” he said.
The company has a registration of over 2.5 million users on its platform across Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi and Kolkata.
