The police have kept on hold the post-mortem report of Bhushan Waghmare, 36, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his rented flat at Om Sai Housing Society in Sector 20, Nerul, on June 16. Waghmare, who worked as a senior associate with Wipro, had shifted into the flat a year ago.
Waghmare’s viscera have been sent for further tests after his younger brother, Rakesh, accused his two roommates — Abhinesh Kumar (30) and Abhishek Tiwari (27) — of foul play. He claimed that they were harassing his brother. Assistant Police Inspector Ganpat Parchake said, “Following doubts raised by relatives, the post-mortem report of the victim has been kept on hold till the result of the viscera test is revealed. The prima facie report by the civic doctor had mentioned that the death was caused by asphyxia.”
The Nerul police on June 20 arrested the two roommates for abetting his suicide. Kumar, a native of Jhansi, works in the Railways and is posted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. He had been staying at the apartment for two months. Tiwari, a software engineer with a private bank in Turbhe MIDC, had moved into the flat 15 days before the incident. Mr. Parchake said, “The neighbours said they heard the three roommates fight often. We suspect the two wanted Waghmare out of the flat so they could bring their friends in.”
Rakesh said the rent agreement was in his brother’s name. After his old roommates vacated the flat, he Delhi-based landlord gave Waghmare the responsibility of finding new roommates and securing their verification documents. Waghmare then posted an advertisement online and when Kumar and Tiwari shifted into the flat, he asked them to submit their documents for police verification. But they allegedly abused him. Waghmare then informed the landlord, the society’s secretary and the corporator that he was being harassed and feared something would go wrong. The police said the roommates claimed that they found Waghmare dead when they came home after work.
