A Maharashtra police officer has been suspended after he was seen shaking a leg with a girl in an illegal dance bar. The suspension of the officer, posted in Thane (Rural), was ordered earlier this week and an enquiry has been initiated into the incident.
According to the police, the officer identified as Assistant Police Inspector Umesh Patil was posted at the Kasimira station in Thane and his conduct was found unbecoming of an officer. The incident at the dance bar happened nearly 10 days ago, said Rajesh Pradhan, Superintendent of Police (Thane Rural).
The incident had been filmed and a video clip was shared on the Internet. In the clip, the accused is seen dancing as a Hindi film song plays in the background.
Last month, too, two police officers from Manpada station were caught dancing and drinking alcohol in a local bar during a raid.
In another case, a Mumbai police assistant inspector was suspended two days ago after questions were raised about the manner in which he investigated a case. Following complaint by a woman he had arrested in a theft case, a preliminary enquiry was initiated, and allegations made were found prima facie true.
