Siddhant Ganore, son of police inspector Dnyaneshwar Ganore, was arrested on Friday morning for allegedly murdering his mother, Dipali. Police sources said Siddhant (21) admitted that he killed his mother because he was fed up of her constant nagging.

Siddhant (21), the only son of the couple, went missing on Tuesday night after Mr. Ganore found his wife dead and a note written in blood next to her body in their Kalina home. The Vakola police had registered a case of murder and Siddhant was detained by the Jodhpur police on Thursday and handed over to a three-member team of the Vakola police. He was brought to Mumbai from Jodhpur on Friday.

Impulsive attack

An officer said, “Siddhant was frustrated as his mother imposed restrictions on him. He was not allowed to use social media platforms, including WhatsApp. Dipali would check his mobile every day and keep tabs on his conversations. An argument broke out and when Dipali found out that Siddhant skipped his exams. He first contemplated suicide, but stabbed Dipali with a kitchen knife in the heat of the moment.”

The post-mortem report showed that Dipali sustained 12 stab wounds: five on the neck, three on the chest and four on the hands. Police officers said Siddhant fled after the murder to Borivali railway station and bought a ticket for the first train leaving the the city, which was headed for Surat; from there he travelled to Jaipur.

An officer said, “Siddhant stole ₹2 lakh in cash from his house and bought a handset and a SIM card. He called one of his friends in Mumbai and asked him how things were at his home. He also mentioned he was in Jaipur.” The police quizzed the friend and found his number and location. When the police realised he was on his way to Jodhpur, they contacted the local police. Siddhant was produced in court on Friday and remanded in police custody till June 2.
