Mumbai: Businessman Raj Kundra, husband of actor Shilpa Shetty, might have landed a police officer in trouble due to his social media activities.
Mr. Kundra, along with Ms. Shetty and several others, was booked in a cheating case by the Kongaon police in Bhiwandi earlier this month for allegedly defaulting on payments due to a Bhiwandi-based businessman when they were directors of Best Deal TV. On Tuesday, the Thane sessions court granted anticipatory bail to the couple, and Mr. Kundra was called for questioning by the police on Wednesday.
The Kongaon police said Mr. Kundra was questioned for around three hours before being allowed to leave, and is likely to be called again.
Later in the afternoon, Mr. Kundra posted a picture of himself with an officer with the Kongaon police, with a caption reading, “visited a police station in Thane. I honestly feel sorry for the cops who work endless hours in very mediocre surroundings. Government needs to spend more on upgrading their stations for a better working environment for all cops. A picture with Inspector #Deshmukh ji. (sic)”.
The Thane police said regardless of Mr. Kundra’s intentions, it was not professional for the officer to pose with an accused in a criminal offence for a picture and that he could face action.
When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Zone II, said, “We will verify the facts and take action accordingly.”
