An Oman Air flight from Muscat to the city was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday as air traffic congestion continued to affect flight schedules at Mumbai airport for the fourth consecutive day.
The airport has been reporting air congestion since May 17 due ongoing work to upgrade the Instrument Landing System, which guides airline pilots to land. Moreover, strong winds forced the airport operator to switch between the main runway and shorter secondary runway.
An official spokesperson confirmed that the flight had to be diverted to Shamshabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad because of congestion. Scheduled to land in Mumbai at 1.25 p.m., it landed in Mumbai at 4.55 p.m.
