The body found on Monday in Jui creek in Vashi has been identified as that of 75-year-old Mohammad Tamboli, a resident of Badlapur.

Along with the body, the police had also found a diary in which a few numbers were mentioned. “These numbers were of random shops in Ambernath and nearby places. We believed that he came from Thane and cross-checked missing complaints of senior citizens in Thane jurisdiction,” Police Inspector Sanjeev Dhumal from Vashi police station said.

Tamboli was staying at his son Sameer’s house in Ghatkopar for treatment.

After coming across the missing person’s complaint registered by Mr. Sameer, a civil contractor, at Pantnagar police station, his relatives were called on Wednesday to identify the body, Mr. Dhumal said.

“Tamboli was forgetful and would note down contact numbers of the shops he saw. He left home on January 8 and was last seen by a relative at a mosque in Mankhurd. He did not have a phone. How he reached Vashi is unknown and since it is a Pantnagar case, we will be transferring it to them,” he said. Police suspect that Tamboli had fallen off Jui bridge while walking. As per the post-mortem report, he drowned. His body will be handed over to relatives on Thursday.
