Navi Mumbai: The Rabale MIDC police have arrested an autorickshaw driver for allegedly raping his minor neighbour on Saturday afternoon.

The 15-year-old girl, who has just finished Class IX, was sleeping at her residence in Ishwarnagar in Digha. The accused, Vikaskumar Yadav (23), an autorickshaw driver, went to her residence and told her that he liked her. The complainant rejected his advances and asked him to leave her house, which angered him. He raped her and warned her not to tell anyone about it.

The complainant has lived with her maternal uncle and grandparents since she was five years old, while her mother lives in Uttar Pradesh and father works in Saudi Arabia.

“On Saturday, her aunt and grandmother had gone for a wedding, and her grandfather and uncle were at work. Hence, she was alone when Yadav came to the house. After her uncle came back, he sensed something was wrong and called her mother. Her mother spoke to the girl on the phone, and the girl told her what had happened,” Sub-inspector Vishal Patil said.

Yadav was arrested on Sunday under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in court on Monday and has been remanded in police custody till May 25.
