The mobile phone belonging to the prime suspect in the murder of a woman in Ghansoli was found in Dombivali on August 17, but there was no trace of him. Shekhar Bhaiyye (34) is suspected to have killed his mother Chandrakala Yasnwante Bhaiyye (63) on August 13.

An officer from Rabale police station said, “After Mr. Bhaiyye’s phone was found active in Dombivali, we traced the man using it, and he led us to the man who sold it to him. That man told us that he had found the phone on the premises of Thane railway station.”

The police initially suspected that Mr. Bhaiyye, an instrumentation designer who works at Vikhroli, had gone to the area in Dombivali where he used to stay on rent. Searches were also conducted at Junnar, his home town.

The CCTV footage shows him last at Thane railway station. The police cannot rule out the possibility of him going to Delhi where he earlier worked.

While the victim stayed on the third floor of Sidhivinayak society at Sector 9, Ghansoli, along with her husband, Mr. Bhaiyye stayed on the fifth floor of the same building along with his wife and son. The murder is suspected to have occurred between 7 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. after the son left home on the pretext of buying milk at 7 a.m., but was seen leaving the society at 7.30 a.m..
