Medical interns strike work over stipend

Mumbai: Demanding a stipend hike, 2,100 medical interns across the State, including 600 in Mumbai, have called a strike from Wednesday.

While most States pay between ₹15,000 and ₹21,000 per month to medical interns, Maharashtra pays only ₹6,000. Interns are demanding at least ₹11,000 per month, an amount the government had agreed to when they went on a strike in July 2015. Striking interns were asked to call off the strike by their deans, but they refused saying their demands have been ignored.
