Over 200 residents of Kharghar on Tuesday took part in a candlelight march to demand justice for Shilpa Puri who died after her bike skid on a uneven stretch of road near Utsav Chowk on October 14.

‘Fill all potholes’

Mangal Kamble, founder of Swach Karghar Manch, which organised the march from the accident spot to Kharghar police station, said: “There is no basic infrastructure. Roads get washed away in the rains and makes driving in Kharghar a difficult task.” Bharti Dange, 59, the victim’s mother, said, “I do not want anyone to go through this pain. All potholes should be filled at once.”

Following outrage by residents after Shilpa’s death, the CIDCO on Tuesday levelled the uneven stretch where the accident took place. Rakhee Bilaney, a resident, said, “See how the CIDCO covered the uneven patch in a hush-hush manner.”

Amit Puri, the husband of the deceased, said: “The road is level today. If the road was in a good condition on Saturday I would not have lost my wife.”
