Mumbai: A 52-year-old man on trial for a murder committed in 2012 was allegedly killed by the victim’s younger brother in Malwani on Wednesday night. Police said the accused in the case, Amir Shaikh, 20, tried to kill Sayed Aslam Sheikh in the same way the latter had allegedly killed his brother five years ago.
Police said Sayed was arrested in 2012 after he allegedly killed his neighbour Akbar Murtuza Amir over a property dispute by slitting his throat. oth Sheikh and Amir were residents of the same area and had been involved in the dispute for several months.
Senior PI Deepak Phatangare, Malwani police station, said, “Around a year-and-a-half ago, Sheikh was granted bail, and he returned to the same locality where Akbar’s brother, Amir, was also staying. On Wednesday night, Sheikh was on the way home when Amir and his friend Umer Ali Khan accosted him.”
On Wednesday, Khan allegedly hit Sheikh on his head with a iron rod, and Amir stabbed him several times before slitting Sheikh’s throat. The duo fled the scene. Around an hour later, local residents saw the body and alerted the police control room. Sheikh was taken to Siddharth Hospital in Goregaon, where he was declared dead before admission.
The police began searching for possible suspects, and were told about the feud between Sheikh and Amir by informants. This was verified by the police using their records. They also came to know that Akbar, who had allegedly been killed by Sheikh, had a younger brother living in the same area. “Both accused were picked up from Malwani and arrested on Thursday. We have charged them with murder under the IPC and are investigating further,” Mr. Phatangare added.
