Nikhil Dahotre, the mechanical engineer who allegedly killed his father, Vijay Kumar, a retired comptroller and auditor general, is changing statements frequently, said police.

‘Fake motives’

“His claim of sexual advances made by the father as a motive seems to be fake and was made to gain sympathy. He doesn’t seem to have any regrets. We feel that property was the only reason he killed his father,” senior police inspector Shivaji Awate from Koparkhairane police station said. Another officer attached with the investigations said that the accused was a huge Rambo fan and had bought a knife online similar to the one in the movie but couldn’t use it in the crime. “During various fights, he had used this knife to threaten his father. But the knife used in the crime was a kitchen knife which we found in his pocket. He probably couldn’t get hold of the knife he had bought before during the attack,” he said.

The 31-year-old had allegedly killed his 62-year-old father on Monday afternoon at their residence in Koparkhairane. He was arrested on Tuesday after he confessed to killing his father with a pressure cooker, stone grinder, kitchen knife, and a hammer.

Mr. Dahotre’s family members claimed that he suffers from schizoprenia but police officials said they haven’t found any evidence for the same. Mr. Dahotre was unemployed since the last two years, before which he was working at a private firm in Thane. He was arrested under Sections 302 (murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapon) of the IPC and has been remanded in police custody till November 16.
