The Local Crime Branch of Raigad police has arrested an Army jawan and his two friends for stealing ₹1.90 crore from a passenger onboard the Mangalore Express. On September 22, Saurabh Jain, who worked for a jeweller in Zaveri Bazaar, was sleeping when the accused stole his bag at Veer station. CCTV footage and dump data helped police find the accused, who have been identified as Paramod Patil (28), the jawan, and his friends Ajay Pawar (24) and Amit Pawar (26). They hail from Sangli.

Police Inspector Jamil Shaikh said, “In the CCTV footage obtained from cameras between Zaveri Bazaar and Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, we saw two men following the complainant. Mr. Jain also identified them as the two who were seated near him on the train.”

Ajay Pawar had worked with Chirag Jain’s partner in Mangalore and had left the job three months ago. Mr. Shaikh said, “Pawar was aware that employees of the jeweller usually travelled on trains with a large sum of money. So he informed his friends about it and they hatched a plan to steal the money from the train.”
