Pramod Sawant, Speaker of Goa’s Legislative Assembly, banned the use of mobile phones on the floor of the House on Monday.

Mr. Sawant announced the decision in his valedictory remarks on the last day of the monsoon session, which had begun on July 18. He said the decision was taken after it was noticed that MLAs were answering phone calls and using their smartphones during the proceedings of the House.

In force next session

Mr. Sawant said, “Some members have even been answering calls while being seated in the House. Henceforth, the use of mobile phones will not be permitted on the floor of the House.” The ban will come into force in the next session of the Assembly.
