Mumbai: A minor fire was reported on INS Talwar while undergoing retrofitting at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on April 2. Confirming the incident, a naval spokesperson said the fire, occurred due to welding works, was doused by portable extinguishers before firefighters arrived.

INS Talwar is the lead ship of the Talwar class of frigates of the Indian Navy. “The smoke was detected in the main engine room,” a naval officer said.

As a precautionary measure, action was taken as per the standard operating procedure, including calling the Dockyard fire brigade, though it was not required. “The source of the smoke was identified and immediately extinguished using portable extinguishers on board,” the officer said.
