The father of a rape-accused was held for attacking the mother of the complainant on Monday after his son failed to get bail.

Nehru Nagar police said the incident took place at 6.30 p.m. at Vatsala Naik Nagar in Chembur when the 37-year-old woman was on her way home. Senior Police Inspector Pramod Khoparde said, “The accused’s father blocked the woman’s path and started arguing her. He was angry as his son who has been in judicial custody since September had failed to get bail. He then attacked her with a sharp weapon, causing injury to her torso and neck.”

The man was charged with assault, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Khoparde said that the woman’s minor daughter had registered a case of rape against the man’s 19-year-old son on September 10.

Mr. Kopharde said, “The accused was arrested and charged with rape under the IPC, and sexual assault under the POCSO Act. He was remanded in judicial custody and has been applying for bail since then.”
