The Kharghar police have booked eight people, including three from Mumbai, for entering the Pandavkada waterfall, which is prohibited during the monsoon.

The police have imposed a ban on entry under Section 144 of the CrPC because of the drowning cases at the spot. “The police and CIDCO have put up boards prohibiting entrance to the waterfall area. People are not allowed to cross the wall built there, but many of them end up doing so. Pandavkada being a tourist spot, people from Mumbai visit the waterfall too. Every year, cases of drowning are reported even after the ban. This time, we decided to book people under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for disobeying the order,” senior police inspector Pradeep Tidar from Kharghar police station said.

Two of the eight people are women and will be summoned by the court after the charge sheet is filed.

According to Mr. Tidar, five people were saved from drowning at the spot this year. Ten people have drowned at the waterfall from 2014 to 2017.
