Calling Nathuram Godse independent India’s ‘first terrorist,’ the Maharashtra Congress has warned that it will oppose the Hindu Mahasabha’s plans of observing his death anniversary as ‘balidan divas.’
“Godse killed the Father of the Nation. He was the first terrorist of independent India. Why should his death anniversary be observed at all? Our party will oppose any such programme in Maharashtra,” said Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Congress MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
Plan to build temples
In 2014, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha had announced that it would build temples to Godse, their former member and Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin.
This month, the mahasabha raked up another controversy by announcing that it will observe Godse’s death anniversary on November 15 as ‘balidan bivas.’
