A group of 10 to 20 drivers, allegedly associated with Ola and Uber, staged a rail roko at Dadar on Tuesday morning to press their demands. Traffic was held up for around five minutes.
The incident occurred on platform number 2 on Western Railway’s Dadar station. The protestors stepped on the tracks at around 10.30 a.m. and were removed by security staff by 10.38 a.m. No services were affected.
The drivers had called for a strike for the second time on Saturday evening to press their demands but had called it off on Monday after meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who assured union officials that he will look into the matter once the Assembly session concludes.
Around 300 drivers on Monday gathered at Azad Maidan to press their demands including an increase in per-km rate, waiting time charge, and a hike in the minimum base fare.
The Maharashtra Rashtra Rajya Kamgar Sangh and the Marathi Kamgar Sena have denied that the rail roko had anything to do with them.
“We don’t yet know which faction the drivers belong to. It is not proper to hold such protests barely a day after the Chief Minister has assured to look into the matter. The Assembly session is barely eight days long. We should wait and take future course of action later,” Mahesh Jadhav, President of Marathi Kamgar Sena said.
