A 35-year-old resident of New Delhi who had come to Matheran for a four-day tour, died after falling off a cliff while taking selfie on Tuesday evening.

The police said that the incident occurred at around 6 pm on Tuesday when Sarita Chauhan along with her husband Ram Mohan Chauhan were taking a selfie at the Louisa Point in Matheran. According to Matheran police, Ms. Chauhan lost her balance and fell off the cliff into a 900 feet deep valley.

"Her husband has told us that she lost her balance due to strong wind currents and fell off the cliff," a police officer from Matheran police said.

The Matheran police, along with a group of trekkers and local tribal residents, subsequently conducted a search operation and recovered the body in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The Chauhans had come for a monsoon trip to Matheran along with their three children, the police said.

Matheran, is a small hill station, located on the Westeren Ghats range at an elevation of around 800 m above sea level. It is about 90 km from Mumbai.
