Deccan Queen to get faster soon

May 16, 2019 12:47 am | Updated 12:47 am IST - Mumbai

The popular Deccan Queen is set to get faster as the Central Railway (CR) has successfully conducted a trial run using the push-pull method. The method involves placing engines on both sides of the train instead of in the front.

The CR has implemented it in the Rajdhani Express departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The use of the method removes the requirement of placing additional engines called bankers to negotiate the ghat section after Karjat, thus saving time. In the trial run, the train reached Pune in 2 hours 35 minutes as opposed to 3 hours 15 minutes. Sunil Udasi, chief PRO, CR, said the successful trial will be deliberated upon by CR officials to put it into use.
