Residents of Kalina and Vakola in Santacruz (East) have had no water supply for the past two days as a valve of a pipeline was damaged on Sunday. The residents said on Monday that the pipeline supplied water two hours a day to Kalina, Prabhat Colony, Vakola and Shivaji Nagar.

Advocate Charles Dsa, a resident of Tejaswini Tower cooperative housing society in Kalina, said, “We have been without water for the last two days. We have been forced to buy packaged drinking water. However, we do not have water to meet our other needs. We are left with no other option but to buy water from tankers.”

‘No sign of MLA’

Mr. Dsa said that efforts to contact Sanjay Potnis, Shiv Sena MLA from Kalina, were futile. He said, “It seems that he is not interested in our issues. Whenever a problem comes up, no leader helps us in resolving it.”

Robin Viegas, a member of Vidyanagari Parisar Advanced Locality Management, said that the water department was working on replacing the damaged valve at Hansbughra Road. Mr. Viegas said, “As Sunday was a holiday, repair work was started only on Monday. The Water Department officials had assured us that the water supply would be resumed by noon, but we are yet to receive a single drop.”

In February, residents of Kalina and Vakola had to go without water for around 24 hours after the mainline valve was damaged. Mr. Potnis and Alka Sasane, assistant municipal commissioner, H Ward, could not be reached for comment.
