The body of Ram Bhojane, a 22-year-old college student, was found near the railway tracks close to Badlapur station shortly after midnight on Friday.

The Kalyan railway police said that a case of accidental death had been registered and further investigations were on.

Multiple injuries

The body was sent for post-mortem, and the reports indicated death due to multiple injuries, which was consistent with the deceased being run over by a train, officers said.

Woman owed money

Family members of Bhojane said he had come to Badlapur to collect money from a woman who was earlier their neighbour in Badlapur.

Family members said that the woman owed them ₹16,000. They have accused the woman of killing Bhojane and dumping his body by the railway tracks to make it look like an accident. The police said the woman is untraceable, and efforts were being made to trace her.

Inquiries on

Deputy Commissioner of Police Samadhan Pawar, Central region, Mumbai Government Railway Police, said, “We will record statements of the family members, and in case they have any allegations, they will be thoroughly investigated.”

Mr. Pawar said that the police would be speaking to the woman that Bhojane was going to meet, and also look for independent witnesses who last saw him. “Inquiries are being made with all possibilities in mind and appropriate action will be taken depending on the result of these inquiries,” the officer said
